Snorkeling & Swimming
Snorkeling and Swimming Explore beneath the tranquil waters of the Pacific Ocean, just a short drive to one the
most beautiful beaches in Mal Pais. A secret spot at the far end of the Mal Pais road, this special cove is just on the other side of a towering rocky knoll, known also as “Playa los Suecos” or “Swedish Beach.” The last leg of the road to get here is sometimes very rocky, but drive-able with 4WD. Just turn left at the small Fisherman’s village. At the end of this road you’ll find a parking area and a trail down to the beach on the right. A sandy cove is protected by a rock reef, where fish frolic in the surf. It’s a great area for snorkeling and swimming, and you can often find it deserted.
Located next to Cabo Blanco’s protected marine reserve, this is a great spot for seeing fish, eels, octopus, sting rays, sea turtles, lobster, giant hermit crabs and more. There’s many racks, crevices, caves, and boulder fields for fish to hide in. Plus a rock reef outside protects this beach from heavy surf, making the water more calm.
Guided tours are available, or rent snorkel gear and explore the are on your own.

Sea Kayak Adventures
At Sea Kayak Adventures, we love two things: fishing and the environment. That’s why our number one goal is to protect the oceans and rivers where we work in the southern Nicoya Peninsula…while having fun, of course. Without a healthy ocean, we’re out of a job, so we do our best to have little to no impact while fishing or paddling. Most of the
fish we catch are released, or eaten within 5 miles of where it came out of the water. We love to show off our “yellow offices” out on the water, with the best view anyone could ask for. Our passion for fishing is contagious and all levels are welcome. We offer tours for all ages, abilities, and levels of enthusiasm.
Sunset Bait Fishing
2-3 hours $60/person 3pm
Maybe you don’t know whether or not you like fishing. Maybe you’ve never tried it, but you’ve been curious. Let us be your first. Fish and chill. A relaxing afternoon on the water. Bait fishing, cooler, and sunset. Feel free to bring your own refreshments!
Ocean Kayak Fishing
3-4 hours $90/person 6am
We make daily checks of the ocean, tide charts, and swell reports. We talk to the old fishermen in the village, and then we plan our next trip out. Fishing by the conditions: trolling for snapper and barracuda, popping for jacks and roosterfish, whatever is biting that day.
Half-Day Fishing
6-7 hours $130/person 5am (or earlier)
Early to bed. Early to rise. Fish all day. Make up lies . For the passionate fisherman: wake up early and watch the sunrise while trying out different techniques and gear. We’ll start paddling in the dark, stop for breakfast on the ocean after about a half an hour, then continue on to at least one of five reefs where we like to stalk big snapper, grouper, tuna, and amberjack. Not for the faint of heart!
